couples' photos style guide Nature location: Take a look at your location and try to find outfits that work well in the area. Your outfits should be comfortable and easy to move in, and they should also reflect your personalities and normal style. Flowy outfits look great in a nature setting. Boots and sandals make navigating easy while allowing for a classy look. Simple patterns with colors that match the surrounding area can help keep your outfit from clashing. Consider having only one person wearing a patterned outfit while the other wears solid colors to avoid a busy photo. City location: If you end up taking your photos in a city location, you can still take the flowy outfit route, but the architectural setting allows you to choose a more moody or casual outfit. This is also a chance to wear those going-out outfits that you wouldn’t normally wear. Heels or dress shoes are a fun way to elevate your outfit in this setting. Bright or dark non-neutral colors can help you stand out from the concrete backgrounds of the city. For this setting, I would recommend staying away from patterns altogether, especially if you are going for a moody vibe. Color schemes to consider: Some color schemes that are sure to make you stand out: Dark, vibrant colors with neutrals. Like mixing red and cream. A dark red button-up and black slacks with a cream dress would make for some dramatic photos. Going for a more “airy” look? Consider using a mix of pastels; for example, pastel green and pink. A patterned pink top with a green outfit would look gorgeous in a field! Each person wearing accessories with the other’s color can also help tie each other's outfits together. These examples (and more!) can help take your photos to the next level! Making sure you’re comfortable in front of the camera: First, having a discussion beforehand about how comfortable you are with certain poses can keep things from getting awkward for both you and your photographer. Don’t be scared to speak up if your photographer gives a prompt you aren’t comfortable with. Second, choose outfits that won’t reveal more than you want in a public setting. Stick to outfits that make each of you feel like yourself and reflect your personalities. Lastly, remember that having fun is the most important thing, and everything doesn’t have to go absolutely perfect.Extra things to think about: Bring a comb, brush, and a spray bottle to manage hair, especially for windy days! Make sure you have shoes that are easy to walk in. If you need, bring a second pair to walk from location to location. Jewelry, accessories, and makeup that matches your style or the style of the photo shoot can elevate your portraits. Bring a small makeup bag if you feel you'll need to touch it up during the session.
